There are literally thousands of ways to spend ten thousand dollars. If you are former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer that amount of money will pay for almost three full hours of getting your freak on with complete yet willing stranger. Ten large can also pay for a slightly used Prius, half a semester at a moderately reputable University, or an impressive set of breast implants. Thanks to the World Series of Poker there is now a couple of new ways to blow that rather large sum of money.
Most of us are familiar with the WSOP Main Event. Historically this is the event that is the one most associated with the hefty ten thousand dollar buy in. While the price tag is debilitating, the intent was to not only create an impressive prize pool, but also guarantee that a certain level of players involve themselves in this tournament. What a lot of casual observers don't know is that there are a number of other high priced tournaments that share the ten thousand dollar buy in and in some cases higher.
This year the World Series of Poker has added six brand new tournaments that will require a player invest ten grand in their skills as a poker player. While we all know about the Main Event and the fifty thousand dollar H.O.R.S.E. event, now players may also spend a chunk of a year's wages on heads-up Holdem, Seven-Card Stud and Omaha Championship.
While there are several other big ticket tourneys, none of them will have the prestige of the Main Event. With that said, the prize pools will probably attract a large number of players looking for a huge score.
