Today two events kick off in the Rio's Amazon Room, where all the poker players are chasing their dreams as well as their straights and flushes. The first bracelet has been awarded to Nenad Medic, for the $10k Pot Limit Holdem Championship event. While we did not predict a win for Medic, we did predict Andy Bloch would go far - he took second.
The events for today include a rebuy and an Omaha event, both the first of their kind for the 39th annual World Series of Poker. Event 6 - $1,500 Omaha High-Low Split 8 or Better, will bring the Omaha fans out of the woodwork. A surprising number of them will look just like the Texas Holdem fans, but there are a few who are almost exclusively big O players. Expect a good size crowd to play and a not-so-well-known player to win.
As for the Rebuy event, (Event 5 - $1,000 No Limit Holdem with Rebuys) there is one name that we predict will get a lot of attention early on, but will either just barely cash or will bust before the bubble: Daniel Negreanu. Why Kid Poker, of all people? Isn't he a fantastic poker player? Yes, no question about it - he also goes nuts in Rebuy tournaments. Once he sat down to a rebuy with enough cash in his pocket to buy back in forty times: he is a big proponent of the "go for it" theory of rebuys. The idea is to use the ability to get back in if luck doesn't favor you, and then totally abuse that loophole by calling all in bets with live cards and crossing your fingers. Of course that isn't exactly how he will play it, but it is going to look like it.
