There are a lot of things that a body can do with $50,000. Somebody can buy one of the newly designed Dodge Challengers and have enough left for a wussy little, testosterone draining Prius. This would satisfy a person who not only wants to satisfy the NASCAR fan in them, but the eco-Nazi as well. Of course the more responsible people would simply invest the money, while the type of person who kisses babies while trying to buy your vote with a bumper sticker and a catchy little slogan would probably spend every cent of that amount at the famous Nevada Bunny Ranch. Those who played in Event #45 paid $50,000 for the pleasure of being part in this H.O.R.S.E. tournament. For most of the players, this was a very fast way to lose a whole lot of money. For Scotty Nguyen, it was an investment in his 5th World Series of Poker bracelet.
On June 30th, Scotty claimed the jewelry, almost 2 million in prize money, and the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy. This is one of the most difficult events to win, and Scotty did it against some world class competition. We congratulate Mr. Nguyen on this impressive victory.
Soon after watching Scotty hoist the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy (which is a beautiful piece of hardware, but unlike the Stanley Cup, you can't drink from it), we got to see J.C. Tran win his very first WSOP bracelet. Most people would think that he has been here before, but his victory during Event #49 was unexplored territory for this pro, and he gratefully (almost with a sense of relief) accepted his championship jewelry.
As Day 2 of Event #51 winds down, Phil Hellmuth is still in the mix, and eyeing a shot at his 12th bracelet. He knows as each day passes he losses one more chance this year to pad his career lead in terms of WSOP championships. On the plus side, every time he cashes in an event, he breaks his own record for the number of times he has won money playing in a WSOP tournament.
As Day 1 of Event #52 concluded, Vanessa Rousso tripled her stack and put herself in good shape to start Day 2. A lot of us are pulling for Lady Maverick, and hope she pulls out a victory in this event. That is it for the day! Good night!
