One more day down and two more bracelets have been awarded. As each hour crawls past us we continue to have absolutely no shortage of players, but are very quickly running out of championship jewelry.
Midnight on West Coast time feels a whole lot different when your personal biological clock is in sync with a clock set to Eastern Standard Time, but John Phan probably would not have cared if it was midnight in Vegas or seven o'clock in Bulgaria, he was just ecstatic to come away with the victory at Event #40 ($2,500 2-7 Triple Draw) and add a second World Series of Poker bracelet to his trophy case. This has been a good week for John seeing as the first bracelet was added to his resume less than seven days ago. Some people wait an entire career just for a shot at one piece of WSOP jewelry, John Phan takes down two in less than a week. Now that's impressive.
He wasn't the only winner today; Event #41 ($1,500 Mixed Holdem) crowned a new King as well. Frank Gary may not be having the sort of week that John Phan is, but his day went just as well as Mr. Phan's. Well, technically we were into the "next day" when Frank finished off Jonathan Tamayo to win his first WSOP bracelet. The normally stoic Mr. Gary let us see a rare smile. Hopefully somebody got a picture of it: Frank showing emotion is as rare as Bigfoot Sightings in these parts.
Event #42 (The Seniors Event) was quiet. The only break in the silence was when Eddie Villareal dedicated a song to his mother and sang his heart out. He then told everyone where the best place in Los Angeles is to get a fake I.D.
Event #43 featured less singing, and when they had closed up shop for the night, there were a handful of recognizable professionals left in the mix. Shannon Shorr, Erik Seidel, Joe Hachem, and Chris Ferguson have made it to Day 2 of this event.
That's about it for today, now off to find something nice and fermented.
