If there is any truth to the whole bit about there being no fury like that of a woman scorned, this might be a good day to stay out of the path of Anh Le. During Event #15 ($1,000 Ladies No Limit Holdem World Championship) she battled back from a two to one chip deficit during the heads up play against Svetlana Gromenkova. Eventually she had nearly doubled up on Svetlana, and the Championship was just about within reach. But after that things went the way that Gromenkova was crowned this year's ladies champion. Those who make the mistake of crossing Ms. Le's path right now may wind up having their own aortas handed to them.
While the Ladies event is the one that dominated everyone's attention today, Event #14 ($10,000 Seven-Card Stud World Championship) quietly declared a champion of their own. Eric Brooks beat out Fu Wong in the final stages of this tournament to claim his first bracelet. Brooks will be donating every cent of the money he won to a charity that teaches kids how to make better decisions. This is a rather noble cause, but if he is giving them over $400,000 of the money he has just won, maybe they could give him a few lessons as well (just kidding).
Event #16 ($2,000 Omaha Hi/Lo) just finished as this entry is being written, and Andrew Brown has cut Ted Forrest down to size, punting him from the tournament in second place and claiming the bracelet for himself. This is especially disappointing for Forrest who clawed his way back into the mix from a serious deficit. It was almost as if Andrew was toying with him and then pulling the rug out just when Ted was feeling good about things again.
Three Champions today - it was a long night!
