2008 WSOP Diary, July 8: Brian Schaedlich New Chip Leader, Ray Romano Eliminated

Ray Romano has became one of the most high profile casualties of Day 2A. Of course he was not alone on the rail today. A whole lot of players with recognizable faces found themselves making the sad transition from competitor to spectator.  Ray was playing at the featured table, so his removal from the event was pretty high profile, but among the eliminated were also the following players: Barry Greenstein, Vicky Coren, Bill Edler, John Hennigan, Svetlana Gromenkova, and Paul Wasicka. Jimmy "Goboboy" Fricke was also among the debris hanging out at the rail.  Whenever a big name pro is sitting at a table, there will be a lot of media attention. Full Tilt Poker pro Patrik Antonius was playing at the second featured table and having a rather bad day of it. He did survive the day, but is among the walking wounded. At this point there is very little doubt that he will be eliminated soon after he sits down to play again.  In this bizzaro world that has seen some of the biggest names in poker eliminated, the person at the top of the chip count is somebody who has never cashed in a prior tournament. Brian Schaedlich finished the day with $745,000 and is in good shape.  Well that's about it. Good night!
