World Series of Poker Europe - Day 7, September 12th, 2007
There are a lot of religious texts that have a number of things to say about the virtue of mercy. Oddly enough the people who have historically been most educated in these practices have run around in tacky red robes redefining what the term "inquisition" means or have been devotees or the wonders of decapitation. Isabelle "No Mercy" Mercier doesn't seem like the type to make solemn vows of poverty or celibacy. Due to the fact that she has the words "No Mercy" built right into her nickname it is unlikely that the Pope will be declaring her a patron saint of the bad beat anytime soon.
There is an irony to her rather catchy and famous nickname in regards to how she was treated in the World Series of Poker Europe. The woman known near and far for her lack of clemency when an opponent was on the ropes could have used a little TLC from Tony G today. She didn't get it.
Isabelle was eliminated with extreme prejudice when her pair of sixes failed to hold up against Tong G's full house. During the previous hand Isabelle had the opportunity to eliminate Tony. She had him lined up for the kill with a pair of Queens when all he was holding was a suited A-K. During the hand her bravado got the best of her, and she took the opportunity to stick it to her flailing opponent. Before the river card fell she said to Tony that "I really want to bust you, I really do - even though I love you dearly". The river card was a king, giving G a superior pair to Mercier's queens. Mercy just wasn't in the cards for Isabelle.
On Friday, all remaining players will be integrated and fighting it out until there are only about 36 of them left. It should be exciting.
