2007 WSOP - The Main Event Begins

Tomorrow, July 6th, is the first day of the Dream Machine, the Big Dance, the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event. Event 55, the $10,000 No Limit Holdem World Championship will run for about ten days and will change a lot more than ten lives. Last year the final table players sat down and they were already millionaires, as were a handful of players who had busted out shortly before. This year the projections are more players, more money, which means more life changing moments - this is what the World Series of Poker is all about.  Who is going to win this year's WSOP main event? Will it be a pro or an amateur? Will a former champion take the bracelet, or a complete unknown? These are the questions that will be running through a lot of minds over the next ten days.  Ten days of poker in one event is quite a lot. Considering there are now four Day 1's and two Day 2's, however, only seven days will be asked of any one player - of course, that is a lot of poker, too. The question of fatigue is going to come into play just as often as questions of tactics and strategy, and players are going to have to stave off boredom as well.  Yes, boredom in the biggest poker event in the world.  Players that are in a lot of hands each and every hour are going to find themselves short on chips before long, and those who are not are going to find themselves short on patience. Hour after hour of folding hands is an exercise in self control, as players fight the urge to play a hand - any hand - just to keep from falling asleep at the wheel. Lucky for those not actually in the game, news reports and ESPN coverage will cut out the majority of the tedium, and offer up what promises to be a very exciting ten days, after all.
