2007 WSOP - The Last NLHE

  Today, June 30th, is the last No Limit Holdem event, after a fashion. If you set aside for a moment the Main Event, which is No Limit Holdem for sure, and one more NLHE rebuy event, then this is the last No Limit event of the season. Why the distinction? Because this event, Event 49, represents the reason people flock to the World Series of Poker in recent years.  The event is a $1,500 NLHE, and is now considred the staple event at the WSOP. These events don't get a lot of coverage, unless a big name player wins or there is a huge prize pool, but these events are the bread and butter of the WSOP. The next NLHE on tap is a Rebuy event, so even though the cheaper buy in of $1,000 makes it seem like THAT event should be the game for the poker everyman, the Rebuy factor takes care of that idea. With a rebuy game you can expect to spend as much as five times the buy in or more, which puts it out of reach for the average player who just puts together a few bucks to try his luck.  Of course, the real reason the WSOP is such a big deal is the Main Event, also NLHE, and with the proliferation of companies offering free seats it has become more accesable than ever before. However if you are not one of the lucky ones to snag a sponsor or win a seat, you are back to playing in the $1,500 events - of which there are typical five or six during the season.  So here is Event 49, the last NLHE event for everybody this year. You likely won't hear much about it again (unless someone like Daniel Negreanu wins.)
