Singer Pink once used a very charming euphemism to describe a male dominated environment: she called it a sword fight. Whether or not she thinks they are actually hiding a Roman Gladius under their logo garb is unclear, but the safe money is on the possibility that the reference is to what is lurking in their underpants.
As of the writing of this article, we are down to the last 22 players and the tournament has turned into a sword fight. The dream of a female main event champ will have to be put on hold until next season.
Usually when you get a bunch of men together, there are a lot of bodily noises, bragging, and people talking in unrealistic terms about how much they can bench press. In this case the tables are very quiet and those involved are desperately trying to kick the crap out of each other. Most of the players have spent the better part of the day trying to get rid of Scotty Nguyen. He started the tournament today as one of the smaller stacks and was not expected to last until the caterers had set up lunch. Apparently he is harder to get rid of than holiday guests or athletes foot fungus. He is still one of the shorter stacks, but he just refuses to give in.
For the casual fan, Scotty will be about it for players with wide name recognition. It is almost guaranteed that a new face will become the World Series of Poker Main Event Champion. That is the great thing about this tournament: obscure players can quickly come from the shadows and find themselves as instant stars in the sport.
