Sometimes one has to look at what comes out of the state of Florida and wonder what the hell they are putting in the water down there. That isn't meant with the sort of negative connotation that it would have if we were talking about a place like Cleveland, Ohio. Let's face it: any city that can manage to set its own lake on fire has some the sort of "special" issues that would suggest most of the population went to school on a very short bus. Florida has managed to crank out the Mizrachi brothers: three of whom are world class poker players, and one that is a magician.
Eric Mizrachi has a number of World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour money finishes; Michael Mizrachi has enough WPT first place trophies that it would be justifiable if they simply named an entire event after him; Daniel Mizrachi pulls small mammals out of a hat at birthday parties; but Robert Mizrachi is the one of the quartet who can wear a WSOP bracelet to the Thanksgiving gathering this year.
Robert took Event 50, a $10,000 buy in, Pot Limit Omaha event. Not only did he win the event and the jewelry that comes with it, but nobody can say that he managed this victory over token competition.
He beat the stuffing out of a field of seasoned professionals. The most notable victim at the table was Doyle Brunson. Even though Brunson fell behind the pace and never managed to mount a serious challenge, winning a bracelet with Doyle at the final table lends a sort of credibility to the victory that beating a pack of internet qualifiers just doesn't have at this point. Now that one of the Mizrachi brothers has broken through, one has to wonder if the other pair are far behind.
