This is the event that launched a thousand jokes. No writer can pen the line "Borteh beats Wong" without chuckling like an immature little 8th grader. This is actually rather unfair. Brandon Wong is a very skilled player who has probably spent most of his life listening to every quip ever made about male genitalia and how it applies to his name. The giggling among those in the journalistic profession who still find Beavis and Butthead a giddy little thrill notwithstanding, this was quite a victory for Alex Borteh. The hand before Alex delivered a death blow to Brandon, there was still a glimmer of hope for Mr. Wong. Brandon had the button and raised with an unsuited A-Q. Borteh took the bait and called while holding an unsuited 5-6. There is potential with this hand, but it generally needs a lot of help. The flop was a gift from God, delivering no overcards to help Wong out, and the 6-4-2 that were now on the board gave Alex a pair of sixes and a decent chance at a straight. The sixes were the highest pair the board would currently deliver. The next two cards, a 7 and a 5, failed to advance Brandon's hand and only strengthened Borteh's position. The sheer number of chips that Wong had lost on this hand crippled him, and his hopes for a WSOP championship were low listing like a freshly torpedoed battleship. On the last hand Brandon Wong went all in before the flop with a Q-8, both hearts. This was encouraging but once again the board refused to help and his tournament was ended when Brandon scored a two-pair compared to the pair of 9's that Wong cobbled together with the flop cards. Alex Borteh won the bracelet and took his place in that small fraternity of players who can call themselves WSOP winners.PlacePlayerPrize1Alexander Borteh$225,4832Brandon Wong$135,6153Shawn Keller$92,3164David (Dragon) Pham$62,9065Matthew Kelly$46,5676Vivek Rajkumar$36,7637Mike Byrne$27,7778Marco Johnson$20,4249Petri Pollanen$14,705
