2007 WSOP Event 23 - Pot Limit Omaha $1,500

Scott Clements is quickly becoming the King of Omaha. To the most of the world this title means that you are sovereign over a city in Nebraska where the locals only get excited over three things: football, corn, and the sort of relationship with one's first cousin that would be illegal and icky anywhere else in the civilized world. In the context of what Scott is doing, he is very quickly establishing himself as the one opponent in the game of Omaha poker that most opponents would rather get a full blood transfusion of "Mr. Pib" than face under tournament conditions.  Clements entered the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino wearing the bracelet he won last year playing Omaha Hi/Lo. Less than three weeks into this year's WSOP he added another piece of jewelry to decorate his other wrist with by taking the Event 23 championship: Pot Limit Omaha.  On hand number 94, Dau "Tommy" Ly was eliminated in third place. This set up a head to head encounter between Scott Clements and Eric "Rizen" Lynch.  It would have been nice if this was an epic poker battle for the ages but to be honest it looked more like an experienced and battle hardened Roman Legion vs. Larry Flynt.  Eric was challenging Scott's pile of 1,635,000 chips with a stack that was less than one-tenth of that size. The whole thing was over in one hand. Let's face it, anyone watching should simply be impressed that Lynch didn't submissively urinate when he found himself facing Clements one on one.  This is two bracelets in two years for the 25 year old player. Conventional wisdom says he will not be able to maintain this pace, but conventional wisdom also says the leaning tower of Piza should have fallen completely over centuries ago. So we can't always take for granted what "conventional wisdom" has to say about anything.  There is another month to go in this year's WSOP and Scott Clements will be competing in other events, so he may very well add to his bracelet count. Those playing against him may be tempted to cubby hole him as simply an Omaha player, and overlook him when it comes to other games. This would be a mistake. Along with his WSOP bracelets, he has a WPT championship victory under his belt playing Holdem. He is a threat in any tournament he enters.PlacePlayerPrize1Scott Clements$194,2062Eric Lynch$119,5083Dau (Tommy) Ly$78,6244William Durkee$52,2855Jason Newburger$38,1336Mark Davis$29,8777Andrew Black$22,4088Anthony Maccanello$16,5119K.U.
