2007 WSOP Event 17 - World Championship Ladies Event No-Limit Holdem $1,000

There is a significant percentage of the male population who scream things like "cat fight" whenever women are involved in a competitive situation against each other. It is these same members of the male gender who suggest that most female sporting situations would be more interesting if a large vat of mud was involved. Despite these misogynist leanings somewhere out in the world are women out there who find this brand of sexism attractive. Against anything that resembles common sense they allow guys who should otherwise be dipped in beer batter and deep fried, to breed and create another generation of males who think silicone implants and strings should be part of any civilized nation's constitutional mandates. Fortunately very few of this species of man was present during Event 17 (well, they may have been there - they just were not very vocal).  Even though there was no vat of mud, this tournament was one of the intriguing. The head to head competition between Sally Anne Boyer and Anne Heft bore a resemblance to a 17th century broadside battle between two equally matched battleships. These two players just came in close and unloaded on each other in a way that would have given more timid players a nasty case of post traumatic stress syndrome.  Sally cut Anne's chip lead by continuing to go all in whether or not the cards in her hand warranted such a foolhardy play. Despite the fact that this strategy allowed Heft to double up on one hand, Boyer was undeterred, and continued to play in a reckless manner.  The two of them traded bombs until Sally gained control of the heads up confrontation and eventually finished off Heft with climactic all in duel that Sally Anne won with a pair of twos.  Sally Anne Boyer is the new WSOP Ladies Holdem Champion, but this was one of those competitions that it's actually a shame that there had to be only one winner. Both women played in a manner that was a credit to the sport of poker itself. In the nearly two weeks of WSOP play, this was by far the most entertaining encounter to watch. The guys couldn't have done any better.PlacePlayerPrize1Sally Boyer$262,0772Anne Heft$166,1773Randy Calabro$106,4944Kathy Gliva$70,2165Katja Thater$49,1516Frauke Ritter Von Sporschill$37,4487Mindy Trinidad$28,0868Vanessa Selbst$20,4809Julie Nhien Thi Dang$14,628
