The Channel was launched in the UK in March 2005 and broadcasts poker programming that includes major poker tournaments such as the World Series of Poker, instructional series, online events, documentaries, news and poker player profiles. Recently, Poker Channel Europe was involved in the production of the PokerHeaven European Cash Game, while featured poker cash game poker players around Europe, including 2008 World Series of Poker main event winner Peter Eastgate.
First broadcast in the UK on channel 265, the channel was moved to Sky’s gaming and dating channel in April 2006. Viewing figures diminished so, in an attempt to regain them, the Channel re-branded itself as All In Sport in August. Due to Sky’s broadcasting rules, the Channel was only allowed to broadcast poker programming for four to six hours each day.
In December 2006, Poker Channel Europe decided to cease broadcasting as a 24-hour channel on Sky due to the network’s re-structure and limitations on poker programming broadcast hours. The Channel launched in March 2007 as a free-to-air cable channel on cable platforms in France and Germany and as a satellite platform in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Later that year, Poker Channel Europe started a long-term partnership with Sky Channel 166 to broadcast poker programming in a late evening slot, which continues today.
That same year the Channel also extended its presence online, setting up content and marketing partnerships with online video sites, including YouTube, Vuze, Joost, Zattoo and Blinkx. In September 2008, the Poker Channel Europe re-launched their own website, PokerChannelEurope.com.
