The World Poker Tour always promises a good show, with maximum action at the six player final TV tables of any of their dozen plus events. Starting off with 309 players, Season Six Mirage Poker Showdown had dozens of pros along with many online players and amateur players who all wanted to get their mitts on the just over one million dollar prize for first place.
When the action got down to 18 players many pros were still in contention. Phil Ivey was a favorite, having placed in six other World Poker Tour TV table events before. He never managed to pick up a title, however, despite having a stare so familiar to his fans that says "I can have whatever I want." Other pros hanging about included David "The Dragon" Pham, Shannon Shorr and Davidson Matthew. Nam Le, John D'Agostino and Alan Goehring were also there, each having made significant plays in prior World Poker Tour Evetns.
When it got down to the final six, however, only Phil Ivey of the biggest named pros was still in the mix. Not only was he in it, he was in the lead with 1.3 million in chips. Close behind him were Cory Carroll and Darrell "Gigabet" Dicken, each with around 1.2 million. Jonathan Little, Richard Kirsch and Amnon Filippi rounded out the table with under a million chips each. With the way the WPT blinds move at the final table, however, it was still truly anyone's game.
In the end it was Jonathan Little who took home the first-place prize of $1,091,795 and a seat into the $25,000 WPT World Championship. The final table finishers and prizes were:
