Poker blogs and poker forums throughout the Czech Republic were buzzing about the first European Poker Tour champion from their country. And to the delight of many, Czech student and poker player Jan Skampa, won the prestigious poker tournament in his home country. This EPT stop was the biggest poker tournament to be played in the Czech Republic, and the 23 year old Skampa beat Israeli Businessman, Eyal Avitanm, in heads up competition. It took Skampa three hours to put away the other poker player, but in the end he won the title in his home country and town, and became the darling of poker blogs and poker forums throughout the region.
Thanks to his win at this EPT event, Jan Skampa will get the opportunity for another live poker victory on the European Poker Tour. He will be traveling to the Monte Carlo for the Grand Finals next April. Skampa currently studies economics at St Charles University in Prague, and has apparently made a business decision that the EPT is good for his bottom line. While this Championship added the €5,250 to his bankroll, a fourth place finish at the EPT Vilamoura netted him nearly €120,000. Apparently tuition is not really going to be a problem for him this year. As we continue to follow the EPT we will look for good things from the rising young Czech Poker Star.
