Pub poker is not a new idea. As long as there has been poker, people have been playing it in pubs, and the idea of organizing these games into a league has been around for a while. Online poker isn't new anymore, either. The games have been running for more than seven years or so. What is new is a live pub poker league moving online, and that is just what The Nuts Poker League has done. The Nuts Poker League was founded by Steve Bellis and really took off after his appearance on a popular UK TV show called the Dragons' Den, where prospective businesses came to investors to pitch ideas and vie for capital. Bellis was the only player in the history of the show to get an offer that was more than what he asked for. After that, things have been going well for TNPL, and now they have decided to break new ground and move online. They are not shutting down live play, simply augmenting it. The way a pub poker league makes money is by the venues paying them to host the games to draw in business. If those players can now compete in the same leagues online, what happens to the incentive to go to the pub to play? In the end Bellis turned down the Dragons' offer to go online using their capital until he could find a business partner better suited to his needs.
