NBC National Heads-Up Championship: 8 Players Left

And then there were eight. If this statement was attached to an Agatha Christie novel it would mean that some really bad things had happened to everyone but the remaining eight people; and even their future was looking a little on the bleak side. When we are talking about this statement in reference to television poker, it describes where we are in the NBC National Heads-Up Championship.

The remaining players in this event are as follows:

The Hearts Bracket features baseball great Orel Hershiser seeking a victory in a sport that doesn't involve sweating. Unfortunately, the person standing in his way of moving forward to the final four is a very capable Andy Bloch.

The Diamonds Bracket includes two veterans of the National Heads-Up Championship. It is Mr. Erica Schoenberg: David Benyamine, facing off against Huck Seed. Huck is one of only two players who have made money in each of the last three seasons of this event.

The Clubs Bracket pits Jonathan "Fiery Justice" Little against poker's man of miracles Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. We will forego the obligatory references to turning water into wine, but hopefully for him he can make a silk purse out of, well, Jonathan.

The Spades Bracket will be Gus Hansen's first opportunity to avenge his heads-up disaster at the World Poker Tour Season VI Championship. Phil Ivey will be doing his best not to help Hansen redeem himself.

The quarterfinal round of the 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Championship will air this Sunday, May 11, beginning at 12:00 p.m. EDT on NBC.
