Arizona recently joined the ranks of those US States that got a visit from the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT). Six of the final table players in this event were from Arizona, and the winner as well. It was Andreas Foulias, fifty-three years old from Gilbert, Arizona, who won the No Limit Texas Holdem freezeout event. Foulias picked up nearly $60,000 with this victory, for which he has a few interesting plans.
"Something fun" is on the purchase list for Foulias, right after he buys a new car. He certainly earned his victory, and this past summer in Arizona he picked up the championship position at the Arizona Poker Championship.
When Foulias was heads up for the title, he was up against an old pal, Don Sjulstad of Phoenix. Foulias and Sjulstad have played together in a home casino in Phoenix for 14 years.
There were 350 players for the qualifiers to this HPT event held at the Casino Del Sol, with 141 getting into the main event, building a $204,118 prize pool. After Foulias and Sjulstad (who picked up nearly $30k), the finishers were: 3rd Place Todd Lundwall ($18k), 4th Place Ray Yee ( $14k), 5th Place Seth Krasne ($12k) and 6th Place - Chuck Weaver ($10k).
The Heartland Poker Tour was founded by Todd Anderson and Greg Lang in 2005 and uses "Real People, Unreal Money" as their motto. It is a televised No Limit Texas Holdem poker tour and it is running season three now. More info can be found at HeartlandPokerTour.com.
