Binion's Hosts World Tavern Poker Open

Binion's casino, formally Binion's Horseshoe, is a famous destination in Las Vegas, being the birthplace of the World Series of Poker. When they sold the franchise to Harrah's Entertainment they needed something to fill the tables, and one way they do that is by hosting the World Tavern Poker Open.

The 5th World Tavern Poker Open was held there in December, and players from 25 different states showed up to play. The WTPO is held twice a year, and each time pros and regular Joes show up to compete for cash and prizes in the historic casino. This time it was former World Series of Poker champion Greg "Fossilman" Raymer who was on hand to promote the event.

The founder of the World Tavern Poker Open, which is considered one of the country's largest bar poker leagues, is Mike Matsinger, who added music and unique tournament formats - as well as parties - to make it more of a festival than just a poker tournament.

Players from the Spring and Summer National Championships as well as the National Tournament of Champions all events hosted by the World Tavern Poker Open were on hand to try and win this one. Events like Speed Poker (players have only 5 seconds to act) and Tag Team Poker were a big hit.
