Doyle Brunson and the WPT Finish the Year with a Vegas Poker Tournament

Doyle Brunson

Doyle Brunson and the World Poker Tour will be finishing out the year with a Vegas poker tournament. In the world of poker pros, there is nobody alive more respected then Doyle Brunson (there are plenty of poker pros who are more feared then he is today, but none more respected). This week, poker players of all stripes will be gathering at the Bellagio in Las Vegas to play in the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Not only does this event honor the Godfather of modern poker, but the structure this World Poker Tour event is probably more to the liking of Doyle Brunson than many other Texas holdem tournaments he has played in the recent past.

I can’t think of a person in the gaming industry who has anything that resembles bad feelings about Doyle Brunson. With that said, it is also impossible to ignore his lack of success in many Texas holdem tournaments over the last several years. While he is not a lock to win even Vegas poker tournament that bears his name, the way this one is set up plays much more to Doyle’s strengths. To play in this WPT event, a poker player is going to have to come up with a $15,000 buy-in. This amount will restrict participation to established poker pros. The legions of internet players will probably stay away from this tournament. This means the wild play, extreme risk taking, and bully tactics will be less of a factor. In other words, luck will be minimized, and there will be a premium on skill.

The participants will be a who’s who of the professional poker world, and millions of dollars are at stake. This should be one hell of a tournament.
