A lot of us will read poker tips and strategies that include a lot of subterfuge, psychology, and the sort of Texas Hold’em Strategy maneuvers that would have put a smile on Patton’s face. When you are playing the game at low limits, you can throw most of these hold’em tips out the window.
If you are playing low limit Texas Hold’em, you are either a beginner, or the type of person who enjoys sitting at the “kiddie” table during big family gatherings. There is nothing wrong with being the former, even Doyle Brunson and Phil Ivey had to start somewhere. If you are the latter, get a life, put on the big boy pants, and move up in levels. For those just starting to spread their wings and playing for the meager stakes at these tables, your Texas Hold’em Strategy should be kept very simple and straightforward.
The reason for keeping it simple is that if you try to put some advanced poker tips and strategies into play, there simply is not the financial deterrent to put any power behind your maneuvers. If somebody has an Ace High two pair, and you have three of a kind, no matter what you do, they may plod on forward to the show down and take their chances. It is galling when they hold on to that weak hand, and wind up hitting a card on the river that gives them a Full House, but that is just the nature of this particular beast. No matter what hold’em tips have to say about smart play, the prospect of losing the five or ten dollars they have contributed to the pot is just not scary enough to get them to fold their weak, made hand, or discourage someone who is four cards into a straight with the river card yet to hit the board.
In these low limit games, just keep things simple, and you will be alright.
