Money management is very important when you start playing Holdem for serious money. You want to make sure you always have a nice bankroll to back yourself up with, and you never, ever want to deplete that bankroll. After all, you can't win if you're broke.
Holdem is a prime example of that old adage, "You have to spend money to make money." You can't win if you don't have the chips to bet. You can't bet any chips if you don't have the money to buy them.
This is a really important reason why going on tilt is especially bad for professional players. Going on tilt can quickly get you to deplete your bankroll, trying to vainly win back money you lost.
It's important that you always recognize the point where you need to cut your losses and get out. If you want to continue playing, you don't want to lose all your money.
