What Gandalf Can Teach You About Holdem

What Gandalf Can Teach You About Holdem

You know who Gandalf is - the character from "The Lord of the Rings" played by Ian Mckellen. Gandalf pulls a lot of neat tricks out of his hat and spouts a lot of profound and deep wisdoms. Gandalf is just the sort of imaginary magical master that can teach you a thing or two about playing Holdem.

To start, notice how Gandalf is able to work a group of eight other people from disparate backgrounds and with disparate goals and motivations into a single cohesive whole. Gandalf is a master of manipulating those around him to do what he needs them to do. His goals are noble and lead to saving the world; yours are greedy and lead to heavier pockets, but the basics are the same: getting eight different people to work together and for you is something that really helps at the Holdem table.

Notice also Gandalf's return from apparent death. He undergoes a change and gets a new color scheme along the way. He comes back more powerful than he was before. He surprises his opponents with his new found strength. This is an inspiration to anyone who's having a bad streak in Holdem. You lose some, but you can come back even stronger, playing even harder.

He might be an imaginary wizard, but Gandalf can teach you a thing or two about Holdem.
