Stay Focused

Stay Focused

Sometimes the best strategies have less to do with what you should be doing, and are more about the things you should not be doing. For example, it should be pretty obvious to most people that when playing Texas Holdem, nobody should hold their hole cards so that the business side faces their opponents. Another thing that should be considered a poker no-no is that if you find yourself at the table with UFC Champion Forrest Griffin, it would be best not to go tilt. These are some obvious examples of what not to do. One of the less apparent things that people should think twice about is playing multiple tables online.  Some people are blessed with the ability to split their attention with very little drop off in the quality of what they are doing. While this skill is rare, a large number of people who play online poker feel the need to play multiple tables under the theory that many tables will equal more pots and greater earnings. This is not as automatic as it sounds.  First of all, for every additional table that player has up, there is a percentage of their attention that has just been taken off the first table. This is simple mathematics, but it reflects the fact that playing many hands at once will decrease a player's edge and impact their strategic thinking abilities.  Once again, some people can multi-table and make a tidy sum of money. Some people will multi-table because they can, and others will do it because everyone else is doing it. Remember, multiple tables mean a loss of focus. It's hard enough to put 9 other people on a hand let alone 36.
