One of your opponents, a guy who's been limping since the flop, suddenly drops a big raise on the river leaving everyone at the table, you included, with their jaws hanging limp and their eyes wide. What's even worse about this is, you're next in position. You have to react. This is a pretty drastic situation, but it serves to illustrate the kind of quick decisions you'll be often asked to make. Surety and decisiveness are important skills when playing Holdem. You have to be able to act quickly and with confidence, otherwise your opponents will be able to take advantage of you. Often you will be thinking about what your next move is when someone surprises you, upsetting your plans. Many players will sit and think for long moments before making a move, but this shows a lack of confidence and can be especially bad if you were previously bluffing. Many times, it is best to simply act as if nothing had changed and move forth with your plan. If this strikes you as too risky, dont sit there pondering your options. Instead, fold right then and there. Acting decisive will show confidence, which will help you sell your bluffs.
