Playing against aggressive players can be a very difficult prospect simply because most of these players approach the game like it was a demolition derby and they were the infamous Malachi brothers, but what do you with a group that treats each hand like they were tip toeing through a minefield?
The simple answer is to take advantage of them. One of the most fun ways to do this is to steal the blinds when your hand has about as much value as K-mart stock. The preferred place to steal the blinds is from a late position when everyone else has checked. At a table with a group of highly conservative players this will happen often, most of them will want to see the flop for free if they can. A bet will usually come when somebody is working with a legit hand.
Bluffing from the late position will usually make them put down their cards and head for the snack cart. You can repeat this time and time again, but eventually even the most timid players are going to get sick of you taking the blinds and put up a defense, and this is something you should be ready for.
After a few successful steals the rest of the table will get the idea, and start watching for you to do this. They will of course try to break you of this habit in one of two ways, they will confront your bet head on, or somebody will set a trap.
Once your rep as a blind stealer is well established, slack off on the practice a bit. Attempt your next few steals when you have hands with legitimate potential. The reason for this is mainly psychological. If you are holding good cards when they try to put up a defense to your blind stealing ways, winning the pot will break the defense, and leave them flailing for answers. Even if you lose, but your cards were really decent, the impression will be made that you could have won if not for some hard luck.
Another defense they may put up is to slowplay a good hand, and try to goad you into stealing the blind by checking instead of betting. In this case, they check, you bet, they laugh triumphantly and raise. This forces you to either fold and admit you were bluffing, or match them bet for bet. If slowplaying becomes the preferred way of dealing with you, turn the tables on them.
Let their slowplay force you into a couple of folds. You will lose a few bets, but it is worth it to set them up. When you get some really good hole cards, and the opportunity is there, try stealing the pot again. If one or two people have been slowplaying, and playing the check/raise game, you will get your previously lost bets back.
At this point engage them in a betting war. They may blink well before the river, and if they don't you started with a good hand and have a legit chance of coming away with the pot. Either way, you may well have broken their defense.
Good Luck!
