There are literally hundreds of problems that somebody can have when they are playing poker. Most of them come with the sort of stress that feels like you are getting a epidural with Dr. Pepper. Every now and then you get the problem of what to do when you have a made hand and have to figure out how to get the most money out of your good fortune.
If you have been working on a drawing hand and managed to hit the card you need to complete your hand on the turn, you now have a full betting round to convince your opponent to behave like a cash machine. If there are only two of you left, and your opponent is in a late position while you are in an early to mid position, you have a few options.
If you are playing against someone who is of the passive variety, and has made it this far as cheaply as humanly possible, you might as well bet. If you check, they will simply check as well and this gives them one last opportunity to inflict a bad beat on you at the river.
If your opponent has been chasing bets and raises throughout the whole hand, chances are they will match whatever you do, so there is no harm in betting and raising at this point. Your opponent will probably call whatever you do.
If you are lucky enough to find yourself against someone who is highly aggressive, then you can check confident in the knowledge that he will respond to your show of weakness with overwhelming force. This gives you the ability to do a check/raise maneuver and maximize the profits on your made hand.
Good Luck!
