Advertising and Who not to Try it Against

Today’s Texas Hold'em Strategy is about using Advertising plays. It doesn’t take a Campbell Ewald executive to figure out that advertising only works on the right audience. For the same reasons that McDonalds won’t run a commercial during a documentary about PETA, you should limit your advertising to an audience who will actually respond to what you are doing. Otherwise advertising is a wasted poker strategy.

Here is a good example of how the Texas Hold'em Strategy of advertising is used. Let’s say you have developed a reputation as a very conservative player; every time you bet, your opponents drop their cards and head for the snack table. All this will allow you to do is steal blinds with good cards, and enable the weight gain of your opponents. You need to employ a poker strategy that will shake them out of their little tree. When you get some questionable cards, you play them instead of folding in the way your opponents expect. Your opponents expect that you will only play with only premium cards, so when you play with bad cards, they will fold. At this point you flip over your hand and show them the unsuited 2-8 you just stole the blinds with. Theoretically, employing this poker strategy once or twice will get your opponents to challenge you when you play a hand, instead of just assuming you have premium cards, and ceding the pot to you. The long term results will be that your good hands will get more action, and you will get more value for your cards.

This strategy works against players who have some experience in the game. Unless your opponent can look at the cards you have flipped over, and recognize they have just been tricked, this poker strategy is probably a wasted effort. Avoid using it against clueless fish.

That is the Texas Hold'em Strategy for today.
