The Lady Doth Protest Too Much

Lady Doth

Let us start today’s poker strategy article by admitting one thing most of us know but many of us fail to process; there is no such thing as a perfect Texas Hold'em strategy. You may think you have in your intellectually possession the holy grail of poker strategies, but somebody playing like a maniac, or playing too tight, or playing too erratically, etc. can ruin your well thought out approach. With that said, there is move on the river that can really expand your profits; you may occasionally be burned by it, but during my time playing online it has paid off.

On those occasions when I have rivered something big like a Full House, or the poker Gods have decided to withhold the wet willy of their wrath, and favor me with a runner-runner flush, I like to overbet on the river and go all-in with everything I have. While this looks like an aggressive move, from a Texas Hold'em strategy standpoint I am actually doing a demented kind of slowplay.

Going all-in with a moderate to large sized stack in a No Limit texas hold 'em game is big bet; almost a desperately big bet, so the impression is given that a poker strategy is at play here. A lot of people will read this bet as one that is intended to drive people out of the hand. In short, they will think you are bluffing. While a studied player will probably look at the board and the size of the bet, and guess that you are representing a big hand, many will over this and call your bet. This Texas Hold'em strategy falls under the heading of “The Lady Doth Protest too Much”. Your raise is so big that many opponents simply can’t believe you are serious. In live games I get someone to bite on this about fifty percent of the time. Online the rate is closer to seventy-five percent.

I hope this poker strategy has helped!
