Continuing with our Poker Series on celebrities who play poker, today’s feature is about American’s poker sweetheart, Shannon Elizabeth. Born in 1973, this young American actress and former fashion model came to prominence in the 1999 comedy American Pie. That same year she posed nude for Playboy.

Over the last ten years, she has appeared in several films, including Scary Movie, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Tomcats. Ducking out of the public eye for a few years while she learned how to play poker, Elizabeth returned to Hollywood in the sixth season of Dancing with the Stars, but was the seventh star eliminated from the competition.
Her time on the reality dancing show demonstrated Elizabeth’s keen competitive nature, one that is on display every time she sits down at a poker table. When she took part in Celebrity Poker Showdown, Elizabeth went heads-up again actor Neil Patrick Harris and nearly started to cry at the table when he finished her off.
She also visits Las Vegas up to three times a month to participate in poker games with the top players in the United States. She played in the Main Event of the 2005 World Series of Poker and won a special tournament celebrating the opening of a new poker room at Caesars Palace Hotel in January of the same year, beating out 83 other celebrities and poker professionals.
Elizabeth describes poker as her “second career” and has been called “one of the leading celebrity poker players.” She played in the World Series of Poker again in 2006 and 2007, but again busted out of the Main Event early. In 2007, she advanced to the semi-finals of the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championships in a field consisting of the top poker professionals. She was eventually knocked out by the winner of that year’s tournament, Paul Wasicka. American’s Poker Sweetheart truly is one celebrity poker player to watch.
