The popularity of poker has not escaped celebrities and this is what we have been exploring in February’s Poker Series on Celebrity Poker Players. While former NBA player Dennis Rodman has made a name for himself bringing down rebounds – and for some highly entertaining bad boy activity off the basketball court, he has been using his retirement years to practice his poker skills.

Rodman first player the game on the television programme Celebrity Poker Showdown, claiming to have just learned how to play Texas Hold’em earlier that day. He went on to win the tournament and returned for the final table later in the season.
Now, the Cake Poker Network’s site Only Poker is rumoured to be signing the five-time NBA champion. A source close to Only Poker told Poker News Daily: “We have just signed a major sports celebrity who has won numerous championships during their career.” Whether the mystery sports champion will turn out to be Dennis Rodman remains to be seen, but Only Poker appears to be ramping up its efforts to enter the online poker community’s vernacular.
During his amazing NBA career, Dennis Rodman has had stints with the Detroit Pistons, the San Antonio Spurs and, most famously, the Chicago Bulls. He led the NBA in rebounds per game for nearly a decade and has one of the most recognizable faces in the sports world.
Besides his two episodes on Celebrity Poker Showdown, Rodman also has another poker connection from his time on Celebrity Apprentice last year, when he appeared alongside poker pro Annie Duke. Rodman lasted five weeks on the Donald Trump-helmed reality show until his peers grew tired of his heavy drinking and staged an intervention. Annie Duke made it all the way to the finals, where she squared off against comedian Joan Rivers.
If Poker News Daily’s information is correct, but Dennis Rodman proves to be the wrong candidate, other possibilities include NBA star Kenny Smith, Super Bowl champion Joe Montana and Major League Baseball Player Jose Conseco. Smith recently appeared at the 2009 World Series of Poker charity event Ante-Up for Africa (co-founded by Annie Duke).
Tune into the Cake Poker Network, and specifically Only Poker, to find out if this hunch is accurate.
