The Fish Tour - Part Three

The Fish Tour System seems to be fleshing out nicely. There is the top 24 starting hands; if any hand pops up other than these, it is an easy play. Fold the cards, or see the flop if no one raises and you are the Big Blind, and then fold unless you catch a set or two pair and everyone is playing weak. Otherwise, fold early and watch your opponents play. Take this opportunity to learn the players at the table and how they bet and play. There are a few other rules to the system that are needed before it can be actually played however. For example, how much should you bet when the system says “bet”? How much should you raise? When it tells you to call, does it mean to call all in plays? First and foremost, this system is a tight system; there is a reason the word “Fish” is in the title, after all, as that is what the new and inexperienced players are called. If you are a fish and you start playing loose and aggressively, be prepared to go home early and broke. Because this is an experiment, the betting rules are kept simple. Pre Flop Betting Rules Versus Weak Action - I’m weak, so I will bet 2x the pot to protect my hand - I’m strong, so I will bet the pot to push out drawing hands Versus Strong Action - I’m weak, so I will fold - I’m strong, so I will bet 2x the pot to protect my hand There are many ways this could have been designed. The idea here is to follow a few simple rules. First, protect good hands pre-flop, especially pairs that could get outdrawn. Second, bet aggressively enough to protect against lucky draws, but not so much to push out all the action. How well does this system work so far? In upcoming articles I put it to the test, and we start to see its pros and cons.
