Eric Buchman

Eric Buchman

While not one of the biggest names in the poker world, Eric Buchman is not exactly a stranger to final tables. Before becoming part of this year’s incarnation of Eric Buchman the infamous “November 9”, Buchman had the sort of success in the game of poker that makes him a spectator to the current American recession instead of an active participant.

In the days before he was old enough to play poker in a casino, Eric was a student at the State University of New York. While he may not have been at the magic age of 21, this didn’t stop him from fleecing his fellow students during dorm room games of Texas Hold'em. Despite the fact he earned a bachelor’s degree, it was these games of poker with his contemporaries where his real lessons were learned. After leaving college he just skipped the bit about getting a 9 to 5 job and embarked on a career as a professional poker player.

His assault on the poker world began with a victory in a $300 rebuy tournament and a modest prize. After that he scored another $222,000 in a jackpot associated with a casino promotion. In short, he was not hurting for money and had plenty to play poker with. He took this healthy bankroll and ran with it. Since his first forays into the sport of poker he has managed to cash in both World Poker Tour events and World Series of Poker events as well as appear at final tables for both. He is now second in the chip count at the 2009 WSOP Main Event.

While he dabbles in tournaments, most of his money is made playing in cash games. In general, whenever he sits down at a table, he is a threat to walk away with a fair amount of cash. So much for his degree.
