Super Speed Poker

Super Speed Poker

Major live poker tournaments typically are filled to the brim with No Limit Texas Holdem freeze outs. But even these major events are adding in more unique formats than the traditional freeze out, in addition to offering games like Omaha, Razz and mixed games like HORSE. One new addition is Super Speed Poker, and it is a game you can play at home.

The basic idea behind Super Speed Poker is this - each player has only five seconds to make a decision. And the five seconds period starts the moment the previous player finishes his action. This puts insane pressure on each player to make the right decision in only five seconds.

If the five seconds pass without an action, the hand is folded. Players can take time to actually take the action (they don't need to count out their raise in five seconds, just say "raise! $50!") but there are only five seconds to make a decision.

It might be all well and good for a pro tournament to put on a game like that, but how are you going to keep track of it at home? By making it even more crazy. Once the "clock" starts, any and all players are encouraged to count to five, out loud. The dealer, at least, should be required so that someone is counting.

To know exactly when to count, no player should look at their cards until they are ready to begin. Then, the moment they look, the counting starts.

This game is encouraged for free, play for fun, or cheap games so that there are no hard feelings.
