Poker Tips for Women

Poker Tips for Women

Thanks to the likes of Jennifer Harman, Annie Duke, Kathy Liebert and others - the men's sport stereotype is quickly fading. Women are entering once male-dominated professional poker ranks. Women can thrive and win money with attention to a few important areas.

If you feel that your male opponents view you only as the sweet "little princess" at the table - gear up and use this to your full advantage. If necessary, play "dumb" to gain information about your opponents.

Don't think of it as a step back into the dark ages and use your looks to crumple your opponents' focus. Play up your best features to gain confidence. You do not always have to look like a glossy Victoria's Secret ad - but sparkle and use your femininity to dazzle your male opponents.

Capitalize on your male opponents' insecurity. They may raise or call when they really do not have the cards to avoid the dreaded "being shown up" by a woman.

Pick a limit to match your funding. Strive for a productive length of play - versus finishing quickly in large limit games. Having 50 times the table limit or more is a basic rule of thumb.

Avoid the tendency to stay in a hand for fear of appearing weak. Play smart and do not be afraid to fold. Accept that you should do this at least 90% of time because what you've been dealt may not let you win.

Finally - study and practice your poker. Play low limit games, play online and at the casinos, and read up on poker tips that you can tailor to your own style. As they say, "work it work it own it own it" - own your game and become the player you strive to be.
