There was once an old song of the sea that begged the question "What do you do with a drunken sailor?" Well the obvious answer is to put him to bed in the hopes that he sleeps it off and make sure there are no firearms available. Locking the liquor cabinet is probably a pretty good idea as well. The problem is that the obvious solution is not always the one the will give you the most enjoyment. For example, you could do the obvious here, but you could hand him sword, a bottle of vodka and point him toward the nearest National Rifle Association meeting. Chances are the NRA will solve your problem with the drunken sailor faster and more decisively than letting him sober up on his own. Of course they could hand him a membership card and an uzi and send him back toward you, so there is also a risk. This is kind of like the problem faced by a lot of people who have pocket Aces: there is the obvious solution, and there is the option that you may get more out of, but involves a higher degree of risk.
A lot of players with aces as their hole cards tend to become the table T-rex before the flop, and act with aggression. The point of this behavior is that knocking people out of the hand before the flop eliminates drawing hands. This is the obvious play.
Players with some courage can play the odds on this one. Statistically speaking, there is a better than average chance that your aces will hold up until the end, so one could justify slowplaying them, and allow people to hang around in the hand just to feed the pot with chips. This option takes some nerve and the full realization that you just may lose sending your aces into a contest with a greater number of players.
If the gambit works out the rewards are great, if it fails, it just means your drunken sailor has come home to roost.
