People do silly things in the name of momentum. Baseball players will turn their hats inside out, and wear them that way in order to keep a rally going. Hockey players will shun razors and clean underwear if their playoff momentum carries them from one opponent to another, poker players, well, should just keep playing.
Like it or not, momentum is a very real phenomenon that seems to follow a special set of rules of its own. Trying to dissect momentum and figure it out is a good way to get a migraine, the smartest thing is to just roll with it and play the wave until it ends. This is easy to say, but at times a break in the action that ends one's momentum is not under a player's control.
We have seen a lot of folks at this year's World Series of Poker on hot streaks that ended at a lunch or dinner break and never came back. Once it is obvious that the mojo has cooled, a lot of players make the mistake of trying to artificially resurrect it. Players who do this should just give all their chips to the closest player and head for the bar.
When everything is going right, a player feels bullet proof. This is a condition that is not normal to most poker games. Usually players will need guile, skill, and luck to be successful. Once the temporary momentum is gone, just go back to playing normal and be thankful for a short period where you were omnipotent.
