Magnetic

Magnets attract and repel. It's one of those cool little bits of science that we get to play with in school, and it's another important bit of science when it comes to the modern world. Magnets are super important for so many of today's conveniences, from computers to trains.

In poker, you want to be like a magnet. You want to attract and repel at the same time. You want to attract money, and you want to repel competition.

Attracting money or chips is a matter of simply having a good hand and playing it well. Sometimes you don't even need to have a good hand - you can have a great bluff instead - but the point is, attracting money is what you want to be doing throughout the game, and it is what most of your techniques, tactics, and tricks are supposed to be helping you do.

Repelling competition is a little harder. It requires psychological manipulation as well as presenting a strong front towards everyone. You don't want your opponents to draw close to you in any way at the poker table. Even being friendly should be calculated to keep your opponents distant from yourself, both in terms of interaction and in terms of chip count.

Be like a magnet and attract the things you need while repelling those who would take them from you.
