Find Another Security Blanket

Casinos are not the sort of place where the church choir is going to hold their annual retreat. Any place where the waitresses dress in outfits that would make a Victoria's Secret model feel bashful probably isn't the sort of place where one would expect to encounter high moral character either. When it comes to smoking though, it seems there is a push to force everyone to saints.

Harrah's in Windsor is now a smoke free establishment, just like the rest of Ontario. Considering the sort of legislation that is coming out of California, they will not be far behind in banning tobacco from a place where more Jack Daniels is consumed than water. With the smoke free wind blowing across North America and Europe it will not be long before Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Monte Carlo also jump on the smoke free bandwagon. This will be a problem for poker players who smoke.

When playing at Harrah's in Windsor, Ontario it wasn't hard to notice the players who were having trouble with the no smoking rule. After a couple of hours they would no longer be playing with the same focus they had before, and they would go tilt much easier than most people. Consequently they lost money. This was in ring games, tournaments are much harder on them when they can't walk out for a smoke whenever they like.

In a world where smoking will be about as welcome in a casino as Pat Robertson, poker players who smoke will be at a disadvantage - especially in big tournaments that are more like marathon events than short sprints. Maybe for their long term health, poker players should find a security blanket other than the one that comes from the Marlboro Man.
