Fake Outs

Fake Outs

When you fake someone out, you trick them. It is the same thing as a bluff. An out in poker is someone's chance of developing a hand. When it looks like you are going to develop your hand the way you want it to, it is a fake out. It is the same thing as the game bluffing you.

The game can fake you out in many ways. The deck can be hot, only to grow cold when it is your chance for a draw. The table cards can be building towards that perfect hand for you, only to take a turn at the turn. Your hole cards can be lining up perfectly with your face ups, but then trash will hit the table. In each of these instances, the game faked you out.

That is all a bunch of garbage, actually. The game didn't fake you out. You did. You forgot the first rule of poker, don't count a card until it is in your hand. You don't have that flush until you have that flush. No, the game is not giving it to you. You've just been lucky.

There's no such thing as a fake out, except for when you fake your opponents out. When you don't get the card you want, but play like you did, you are creating a fake out. It is the same when you do get the card but play like you didn't. In this case, it all depends on how well you can sell the bluff.
