Few things are more uncomfy than sitting for long periods of time in a suit or a gown. Sitting on a puffer fish would probably qualify as something lower on the comfort meter than wearing a cummerbund. Unless you are going to the sort of alternative lifestyle party that Boy George may frequent, your chances of sitting on pointy fish is unlikely, but uncomfortable dress clothes are a way of life for some of us.
The truth is that there is a definite relationship between how comfortable somebody is and how well they perform in most circumstances. Those who play poker are not immune to this comfort/performance relationship. A lot of players take great care in figuring out what funny hat and glasses to wear to the table. There is nothing wrong with this: hats and glasses hide tells and help keep belligerent opponents from putting you on a hand. While folks will be deliberate in these particular fashion choices, they will be less adamant when it comes to personal comfort.
Sports jerseys are popular items worldwide, but let's face it, they are hardly fashion forward. These are clothes that are purpose built for functionality, durability, and above all, comfort. There is a reason that LeBron James is not running down the court in a pair of pumps and skirt (although considering his penchant for whining, perhaps he should be). The point is that billionaire team owners know that comfort for the players is a factor when it comes to winning. Poker players should understand this principle as well.
Being comfortable may not help you to better, but being uncomfortable will certainly make someone play a whole lot worse. Choose your outfits knowing that you will be sitting for hours. We are not saying a grungy pair of sweats is the way to go, but loose fitting, airy clothes generally will help a player compete in a long tournament.
