Most people in the western world have seen those "To Catch a Predator" shows. For those who are unaware, this is a program that involves a bunch of news guys getting together with the police in order to trap the type of person who thinks sexual relations with a thirteen year old is just peachy.
What usually happens is the pervert walks into the home where his sexual veal is presumably living. He has been lured there by the prospect that the underage girl's parents are gone for a few days. With the goalie pulled from the net, it seems safe for him to indulge some of his more illegal fantasies. In reality, it is not a perky little thirteen year old who meets him in the home, but a guy with really good hair and a sports jacket that costs more than most people's annual salary.
After some questioning by this father figure, but before the perpetrator is let in on the fact that there are hidden cameras everywhere and a squad of policemen outside, he is asked why he is doing such an ill advised thing as traveling hundreds of miles to commit statutory rape. Over ninety percent of these people will claim they did it because they were bored.
Boredom is a horrible thing and can force even the best of us into doing things that common sense tells us is a bad idea. While most of us are decent enough people not to go in search of under aged nookie, we may very well let it affect our poker game.
At the poker table there can be long stretches where you don't see anything that resembles a playable hand. There is nothing more boring than folding over and over again. Some people will play complete garbage just to escape the boredom for a few moments. This is obviously a mistake.
When it comes to boredom at the poker table, there is a remedy. While a Gameboy might get you thrown out of the casino, you will find that a simple and inexpensive iPod can be your best friend. Having some music to listen to may mean the difference between losing your cash playing bad hands out of boredom, and saving your bankroll for when the dryspell ends.
While we all have our particular taste in music, the soundtrack from film "300" or any Man O'War music seems to be great for keeping the spirit willing when the cards are weak.
