Game Review - World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions

When most people speak of having a "coming to Jesus moment", it usually means they have had some sort of dramatic revelation that results in them looking up fewer websites that require a credit card. In the case of this game your coming to Jesus event involves the eminent poker pro, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, acting as your personal Jedi Master as he coaches you to getting to the final table of the World Series of Poker Championship.

This game is a massive improvement over the previous version that was passed on the public as a World Series of Poker based computer game. The real appeal of this particular offering comes from its career mode where you are the young protegee of Ferguson, and allow his wisdom to guide you to the Promised Land. This story based concept really brings the player into the game and allows a level of involvement that was sorely lacking in the previous version.

By comparison to a lot of other poker games, the graphics in this game are several cuts above the norm. Where in other products, the players (especially the celebrities) have all the depth and detail of a South Park character, Tournament of Champions seems to set a priority on having the visual aspect of the game be a strength of the player's experience.

The actual play of the game is very challenging and the computer offers a very competitive game of poker, especially at the most difficult setting. Overall, this is one of the better games that is out there for your game console. Tournament of Champions runs about $10 more than much of the competition with a price tag of $29.99. The unique story based career mode makes it well worth the extra money.

This game is available for PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Xbox, and PC.
