When many of us think of boot camp, old memories of Jim Nabors singing his way through the Marine Corps comes to mind. These are the sort of recollections that seemingly can only be removed with a shotgun, so unless somebody has the "Kevorkian" state of mind, they will have to live with the memory of Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Of course real boot camp is probably much different than the classic television show based around the Mayberry citizens' military adventures; but whether your boot camp experience involves a sit-com style laugh track or an unforgiving drill sergeant questioning your manhood, we can all agree Clonie Gowen and Vanessa Rousso will not be part of the experience. Well, that is only true if your boot camp experience is subsidized by the government. A boot camp sponsored by the World Poker Tour is a different story.
With 2008 in full swing, the WPT Poker Camps are back for the New Year. This year's schedule of boot camps starts on January 12th and runs through late May. This isn't just a place to get together with fellow poker players while rubbing elbows (and only elbows) with some of the biggest names in the sport. The boot camp lives up to its name as these events are intense, concentrated, total immersion training sessions where highly successful players are your "drill sergeants".
One of the best things about these camps, besides the fact that they make you a better player, is that one doesn't have to mortgage a redundant organ to participate. Being part of a boot camp will only cost a player a few hundred dollars (this does not include their travel and lodging). For those who are curious about taking part in one of these events simply visit www.wptbootcamp.com for details.
