Who's the Master?

Who's the Master?

Men "The Master" Nguyen doesn't often have to wonder who the boss is when he sits down at a poker table. Unless he is playing against Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, or Johnny Chan, there are not that many folks who can pull rank on Men. Until yesterday that would have been true within comfy confines of his home as well, but on March 5th Van Nguyen, Men's wife, became the first woman to win a major, televised World Poker Tour tournament. The staggering implications this has for exactly how even the playing field is in regards to gender equality in poker are dwarfed by implications this has regarding how now Van has a piece of hardware that her husband can't match.

Men may have 6 World Series of Poker bracelets, but has always been a bridesmaid when it comes to the World Poker Tour. His wife has made it to this particular promised land ahead of him and can pull out the trophy whenever he tries to pull rank in any family disagreement about the game of poker.

In reality, Men is probably very proud of his talented better half. He isn't the only one though. Steve Lipscomb, Founder, Creator and CEO of the WPT gushed about her victory and made the following statement: "This great sport of poker is the only one that focuses on an individual's skill, regardless of gender, and we're thrilled the time has finally come to celebrate a female WPT Champion. It was only a matter of time before a female took down a major WPT tournament, and what better way to mark this historic event than Van Nguyen battling for the title while her husband, a well-respected pro, cheered her on from the audience. Her win is one of many recent events that solidify women as a major force to be reckoned with on and off the tables."

We congratulate Van Nguyen on her historic win!
