Strange Bedfellows

Strange Bedfellows

Some genius once put together chocolate and peanut butter and then retired to the sort of lifestyle that only Hugh Hefner could relate to. Well, if not Hugh Hefner, at least John Candy: either way life was good. That is what happens when somebody figures out a way to combine two things that go great together. Of course not every combination is a stroke genius. Nobody is going to make much of a living if they combine sauerkraut and butterscotch. Asparagus and a savage beating is not the road to the sort of riches that the inventor of the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup probably enjoyed either. We can give UltimateBet.net points for creativity when they combined poker with professional wrestling, but was it a good idea?

UltimateBet could have given away seats to the World Series of Poker, World Poker Tour, a vacation to Hawaii, but instead of that they had their customers battle it out in a hard fought tournament for the right to win an all expense paid trip to WrestleMania XXIV. The event is being held in Florida during Spring Break, so that in itself is a winner, but do poker and professional wrestling really go together?

A player who goes by the nickname youngg17 bodyslammed the rest of the competition, and came away with the WrestleMania dream vacation. Most people would not put together a non athletic activity that is considered a sport and a highly athletic event that is not even close to a sport, but youngg17 is probably happy with his prize. The big winner here is Vince McMahon on his WWE. He has long had a habit of turning a profit by attaching his product to pop culture sensations like a remora.

Poker and Wrestling may not be the Reeses of the sports world, but it is at the very least entertaining.
