Poker, Charity, and Dyslexia

Poker, Charity, and Dyslexia

There are a number of worthy charities out there. There are also many unworthy ones along with others that are the darlings of the same politically correct circles that think dodgeball is bad for the self esteem and personal growth of grade school students. So when trying to choose between the good, the bad, and the downright ugly in regards to where a charitable fund raiser should put their money, a phialthropic organization can either include intense research into the equation, or simply decide to give money to everyone. If you are going to choose the latter, it will make everyone feel better about how small their piece of the pie is going to be if Pam Anderson is the one giving the money away.

Pam Anderson is this generation's Marilyn Monroe. Along with a very successful career, and an impressive array of charitable endeavors (that many could argue includes her choice of husbands), she has also dabbled in the poker industry. At an event just before the Superbowl she is combining her love of raising money for others, with her enjoyment of Texas Holdem. Joining her in this endeavor is NBA star Shawn Marion. Though their intentions are noble, the fact that the limited funds from this event will be split between 8 different charities raises some eyebrows.

Don't get us wrong, raising money for charity is always a good idea, but when part of that money goes to help fight Cystic Fibrosis while another chunk goes to aid PETA in their continuing war against Colonel Sanders, then you have to wonder if the organizers of this event are the victims of some sort of philanthropic dyslexia. We applaud them for their big hearts, but wish they would make up their minds on what to do with the money. As it stands now, each charity will probably get enough to pay for a week's worth of high end coffee.
