Liv Boeree Takes Down the Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship

There are countless articles in cyberspace and on the printed pages that while extolling the beauty of the complex subtleties in the game of Texas Holdem, also remind us that this isn't rocket science. Somebody probably forgot to mention this to Liv Boeree, who along with being the new Ladbrokes European Ladies Champion is also a University trained Astrophysicist. While having this sort of intellect isn't mandatory when it comes to the game of poker, an IQ big enough to have its own gravitational field probably isn't a bad thing either.

Usually when Liv is playing a tournament she can count on her looks to send most of the men at the table into synaptic shock, but the Ladbrokes tournament was just her against over fifty other women: those smoldering eyes would not win her a single hand. Unfortunately for the rest of the combatants, Ms. Boeree has some world class talent. Unlike one of those yappy little dogs that most of us would smother with a pillow if they weren't so cute, Liv doesn't need to get by on her looks.

After beating the likes of the 2007 World Series of Poker Europe champion Annette Obrestad and Victoria Coren, the new champ had the following to say: "I'm utterly over the moon about winning the European Ladies Championships. It was a fantastic tournament with a great sense of camaraderie and a really tough final table that I enjoyed playing from start to finish. This is also a great boost to my confidence going into the World Series of Poker which is drawing ever closer."

We are not sure if those on the wrong side of this tournament felt the same about the camaraderie, but in the end all that matters is who has all the chips at the end of the tournament.
